As a designer I believe in making my own material. I always try to work with unconventional material and explore various possibilities of combining unrelated things. My experience with textiles has tough me how to play with material, and bind them together to create surfaces. My stint at Nid helped me familiarize with materials beyond fabrics and yarn. And once the two came together its like combining the fantastical with the mundane.
The workshop will essentially focus at the concept of yarn play. Through various hands on activities both individual and as groups students would learn to experiment with unconventional material and how to translate them into three-dimensional structures. Breaking the stereotype notion of yarn, the workshop would encourage students to work with different material, while teaching them techniques like weaving, crochet, braiding and coiling. The objective is to familiarize students with various materials and how their form and usage can be changed by simple textile techniques.
